Summary

Remo works on your phone and your local network. No account is needed. We don’t collect contacts, location, SMS, call logs, microphone or camera data, and Remo never uploads information about your TVs or your network. We don’t run any server that receives your data.

Information we collect

Google Analytics for Firebase receives anonymous events: app opened, onboarding finished, search started, device found, device connected, connection failed, device saved or removed, support opened, rating prompt shown, Premium screen opened, Premium plan chosen, and rough counts of which kinds of buttons are used. They arrive with the app version, Android version, phone model, approximate region and a random app-instance ID. When the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics receives the technical crash trace and the phone’s state at the time of the crash.

Information we don’t collect

Wi-Fi passwords, network credentials, IP or MAC addresses, the list of devices on your network, the names you give your TVs, TV screen contents, browsing data, what you watch, or your TV usage history.

Local network and discovery

When you start a search, Remo sends discovery requests on your local network for the device types it can control, and lists only the compatible devices that answer. A search stops by itself after a few seconds and never runs in the background. Remo connects only to the TV you select, only while the remote is on screen, and only to addresses on your local network. Nothing about your network leaves your phone.

Infrared

IR commands are sent by your phone’s built-in emitter using Android’s Consumer IR API. IR works offline and sends nothing over the internet.

Advertising

Not every version of Remo shows ads; this section applies to the versions that do. The free version shows ads on the Home and Help screens through Google AdMob, plus one optional rewarded ad if you choose to unlock the touchpad for 24 hours. To deliver and measure ads, AdMob may collect the advertising ID, IP address, device information and ad interactions, as described in Google’s policies. Where the law requires it, you are asked for consent before any ad is requested, and you can change that choice in Settings. Ads never appear on the remote. Premium removes all ads.

Purchases

Premium is sold through Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment. Remo only learns whether your purchase is active and never sees your payment details.

Third-party services

Google AdMob and Google’s User Messaging Platform (ads and consent, free version only), Google Play Billing (purchases), Google Analytics for Firebase (usage statistics) and Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports). Google handles this data under its own Privacy Policy.

Data retention and deletion

Saved TVs, names, rooms, favorites and settings stay on your phone and are not included in cloud backups. Delete a TV in My devices, or erase everything by clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling it. Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months and crash reports for 90 days.

Security

Remo talks to your TV with the TV’s own local control protocol. Some of these are unencrypted by the TV maker’s design, which is one reason Remo only ever uses them on your local network. Pairing keys issued by your TV are stored encrypted with a key held in the Android Keystore. Connections to Google services use HTTPS.

Children

Remo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.
